Ishikari Lighthouse/MAP
A symbol of the city of Ishikari for over 110 years, which still plays an active part since its establishment in 1892. It appeared on screen in a Shochiku movie "Yorokobi mo Kanashimi mo Iku-toshituki (Years of Joy and Sorrow)" in 1957. Enjoy the beautiful scenery from season to season.

Hamanasu no Oka Park/MAP
A 1.5 km-long paradise for sea-plants located at the mouth of the Ishikari River. With the city flower Hamanasu (Wild Rose), some 180 varieties of wild plants bloom from spring to autumn. We invite you to stroll around, listen to the sound of the sea and birds' singing, and enjoy the simplicity of the scenery outside the city's suburbs.

Visitor Centre/MAP
The centre is attached to Hamanasu no Oka Park. Panels and videos introduce some 140 varieties of plants and wild birds. Relax and rest your tired body after strolling.

Ishikari Benten Shrine/MAP
This is the oldest building in Ishikari, established in 1694. It wishes safe ocean journeys and abundant salmon catches. It enshrines the "Benten-sama" (goddess of fortune), in addition to "Same-sama", a deified sturgeon of the Lord of the Ishikari River.

Ishikari Hachiman Shrine/MAP
A shrine established in 1858 after Ishikari was under the direct control of Tokugawa Edo Shogunate. The main village shrine for Eastern and Western Hokkaido (Ezo-chi).

Benten Historical Park/MAP
Old downtown Ishikari was the political and economic centre of central Hokkaido. This park was constructed on the former site of the original Ishikari hospital and symbolises Ishikari's reliance on salmon fishing. It was constructed at the same time as the Benten historical promenade.

First Settler's Monument/MAP
A monument to pay respect to Ishikari's first settlers. Four images are on the monument: the Ishikari River; Kinsuke Arai, who contributed to the reform of Ishikari; an old ferry which connected Ishikari and Osaka; and the Ishikari Bay New Port.

Rakuzan-kyo/MAP
A beautiful cottage for experiencing tea ceremony. The Japanese style room was originally built in 1937 and was part of the old hospital. It was named after the hospital director, Suzuki's Haiku name. He was the last president of the Ishikari's Haiku Poem Association, Shoko-sha.

Aso-Beach Ishikari/MAP
Aso-beach is popular for people from Ishikari and neighboring areas to visit. A couple hundred thousand people visit each summer in July and August. There is an outdoor spa at Banyanoyu which is a great draw as from it one can see spectacular sunsets. Special wheelchairs are available for disabled people to safely enjoy the baths and view the sea.

Ishikari-Hama Seasideplants Conservation Center/MAP
The Ishikari Hama (seashore) is famous for rich seaside plants. This center provides valuable information about conservation of seaside plants. Please enjoy panels and videos introducing seaside plants of Ishikari Hama in a display hall. The center exhibits seaside plants gathered at the Ishikari Hama so that you may enjoy them in one place.

Muko no Tami (Innocent) Sculpture/MAP
A bronze sculpture, one of the masterpieces of Mr. Hongo, a world famous sculptor born in Hokkaido. Dedicated to those who devoted their lives to settling in Hokkaido. Expresses sorrow due to the hardships and loss of freedom of these settlers.

Ishikari Local Museum/MAP
The main themes of this museum are Ishikari City's history and nature - the sea, the river and the estuary -. The interesting collection includes a stuffed sturgeon that used to go up the Ishikari River, devices for catching salmons created by the ancient people of the Johmon historical period, and whale bones fossilized when Ishikari had been under the sea in the old days. With paying a charge of cans, you can make your original cans by designing labels.
Admission fee: 200 yen for Adults (free to under 15)
Open: Monday, Wednesday - Sunday 9.30-17.00
Close: Tuesdays, the next to national holidays and from the end to the beginning of the year.

Shoko-Sha/MAP
A private museum displaying materials associated with Haiku poems and renowned people related to the "Ishikari Shoko-Sha (Haiku Poem Association) that was formed at the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period (the 1860s and 70s).

Mizubasyo (Skunk Cabbages)/MAP
White neat flowers, Mizubasyo (skunk cabbages) bloom on the Makunbetsu wetlands at the mouth of the Ishikari river from the late April to the early May. The Makunbetsu wetlands are approximately 40 hectares in area, along an embankment of the Ishikari Kakou-Kyo Bridge. A 1.5 km walkway is equipped to enjoy Mizubasho flowers.

Access: Take the "Sapporo-Atsuta Line" by bus about 50 minutes at the Hokkaido Chuo Bus Terminal (3, Higashi 1 Chome, Odori, Chuo Ward, Sapporo) and get off at the "Yausuba" bus stop. Then walk 10 minutes. Please check details with the Hokkaido Chuo bus.

Totem Pole/MAP
A gift from the District of Campbell River, commemorating the 10th year anniversary of the sister city relationship between Campbell River and Ishikari. This totem pole, carved by the Artist of the totem - Mr. Bill Henderson, located at City Hall.

Atsuta Park View Point/MAP
In July 2006, Atsuta Park View Point was the first Hokkaido area to be selected as one of the 100 romantic meccas, worthy for lovers to propose in. The vast coastline and beautiful sunsets on the Sea of Japan can be seen at this point.
Also there are many quaint attractions for couples to pledge their love to each other here including a promise bell and a large, old style padlock on a gate to be locked as a symbol of unity. Winter has snowshoeing and winter clothes are available.
【By car】:70 min. From Sapporo. Take route 231 from Sapporo towards Rumoi and it’s on the right hand side.
【By bus】「Chuo bus Satsuatsu or Satsuhama」from Sapporo Terminal or from Tetsudobyoinmai Bus Station. Get off at Atsuta Shisho and it’s a 10 min. walk. (90 min. - \1250)

Bishabetsu View Point /MAP
Nearby Assamubetsuteuriyarishiri National Park is the well-known, “Thousand Oaks”. From the viewing area of this park one can see Assamubetsu town and the coast of the Sea of Japan winding its way north. And the islands of Teuri and Yagishiri can be seen on the horizon. The outline of Rishiri Island and dramatic sunsets also await visitors. Near the view point is and interesting solar-powered toilet.
※In winter, this point is closed to cars.
Atsuta Park Campgrounds/MAP
It takes about an hour from Sapporo. Popular because you can see wild birds, insects and wild animals playing in the woods. The campgrounds are broad and open with a cooking and barbecue area. There are flush toilets and recreational equipment is available.

Kawashimo Seaside Facilities /MAP
Located an hour and a half from Sapporo, these facilities are next to Kawashimo beach which has clear water and beautiful sand and the beach itself is well maintained. Campgrounds are also at this facility.

Okajima Cavern Remains/MAP
In 1936 at this site, Jomon to Satsumon period dwellings (covering 7 periods of time) were identified after 2 excavations in 34 years. Many bones, earthen pots and stone tools were removed from this site. An exciting Okhotsk pot was found at the 4th level of excavation. This find was special to the archeological society, being found at such a southern point on the Sea of Japan. In fact, the most southern point.
Koganeyama /MAP
Shaped similarly to Mt. Fuji, its other names are Koganeyama-Fuji and Hamamasu-Fuji. At 740m, it’s great and safe climbing for all members of the family.
Hakugin Fall/MAP
In November 1981, Route 231 at long last opened to this area. An opening monument was built at Hakugin Falls. The clear water flowing through the rocks relaxes you after driving. In winter the water freezes creating majestic icicles.
Atsuta Archives /MAP
This facility shows the history of Atsuta with its herring fishing prosperity and its trade by ‘Bezaisen’ trading ships in the Edo period. Also displayed is the history of common and farm machines. And local novelist, Shimozawa Kan and sumo ‘yokozuna’ Yoshibayama’s everyday items are on display.

Hamamasu Local History Achive Museum/MAP
Built in 1899 as a fisherman’s house, a part of the herring industry by Shiratori, the house went unused after fishing stopped in 1955 and was on the verge of collapse. In 1961 Hamamasu town rebuilt this house as a museum and commemorative of the town’s 100th anniversary. Inside herring fishing equipment is on display as are archives of people’s knowledge and skills in fishing. It was open to the public as a local heritage museum for modern Hamamasu.

“Asaichi” Fishery Harbor/MAP
There are three morning markets called “Asaichi” near the harbor, famous for fresh seafood caught in Ishikari bay port. Freshness is not their only selling point. Haggling and throw-ins are also fun part of the morning fair. Please call and check if they are not closed.

Also, there is a fishery stand called “Koi Koi Banya no Seisen Hiroba,” selling fresh seafood which is owned by mothers who live in Ishikari Honcho district. There is an eatery next to it.
